Well , depression can lead you to have panic attacks as I have had a similar experiance here are some tips on how to avoid having panic attacks.
Breath thru your nose and exhail thru your mouth a few times, start counting backwards from a high number like 700 or a thousand, start thinking about the things that make you happy and the people you love. Well those were the things that helped me alot. And if you have panic attacks I hope it helps you too. Oh and it's also good to talk alot and get everything off your mind and not keep it all bottled up inside.
