Hello
People with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, epilepsy or osteoporosis appear to run a higher risk of disability or death, if they are clinically depressed.

As a psychologist who evaluates individuals for mental-medical disability, I can attest to the disabling effect of depression, unfortunately.

Does depression (or stress) cause medical disorders or the medical disorders cause depression? It might not be an unsolvable "chicken or the egg" puzzle, but it would take a long time to unravel the exact relationship between depression and disease.

Some of the biological underpinnings of the depression-disease relationships have recently come to light. For instance, take depression and heart disease. Depression might play a part in formation of blood clots via serotonin. Depression and serotonin deficiency go hand in hand. When there is less serotonin in the blood, chances of blood clotting increase. An artery-blocking blood clot can have serious consequences for the heart and the brain.

Researchers have also observed that the heartbeat of a clinically depressed individual is unusually steady, which is not supposed to be good for the heart.

In America, 10% of diabetic men and 20% of women are clinically depressed. Depressed diabetics are much more likely to develop heart disease, blindness, or nerve damage. Depression makes the body less responsive to insulin via cortisol. Cortisol tends to be elevated in the depressed (or stressed) individuals. Elevated cortisol doesn't allow the body to properly utilize the insulin.

Cortisol is also implicated in the depression-osteoporosis relationship. Elevated cortisol may make some depressed individuals more prone to osteoporosis. Such risk tends to increase as a woman nears the menopause. Cortisol doesn't allow the bones to properly absorb calcium and may in fact accelerate calcium loss with menopause and aging.

Depression must be promptly identified and treated. Early diagnosis and treatment of depression is not just a "good idea," but it some cases, it can save a person from becoming disabled for life or dying prematurely.

Hello
Learn to recognize common holiday triggers, so you can disarm them before they lead to a meltdown:

* Relationships. Relationships can cause turmoil, conflict or stress at any time, but tensions are often heightened during the holidays. Family misunderstandings and conflicts can intensify — especially if you're thrust together for several days. On the other hand, facing the holidays without a loved one can be tough and leave you feeling lonely and sad.
* Finances. With the added expenses of gifts, travel, food and entertainment, the holidays can put a strain on your budget — and your peace of mind. Not to mention that overspending now can mean financial worries for months to come.
* Physical demands. Even die-hard holiday enthusiasts may find that the extra shopping and socializing can leave them wiped out. Being exhausted increases your stress, creating a vicious cycle. Exercise and sleep — good antidotes for stress and fatigue — may take a back seat to chores and errands. To top it off, burning the wick at both ends makes you more susceptible to colds and other unwelcome guests.

People suffering from mental ill-health will think, feel or behave abnormally. This can be confusing not only for them but can affect their relationships, their work or education, and their social life. Having a mental health problem can create difficulties for all family members, friends, and the people they interact with. Mental health problems are usually caused by a variety of factors including breakdown in a relationship, death of a family member or a close friend, bullying, abuse, divorce, separation from parents or loved ones, stress
born of a person's current situation. Mental health can happen suddenly without prior indications or get built up over time.

When people first begin to experience mental health difficulties they may not be able to fathom what is happening. In several instances, people tend to deny that anything is wrong with them or even suppress information. Their reasons for doing this could be embarrassment, a sense of shame or fear of other people's reactions. There is no denying the fact that mental health results in social stigma. Please remember that there is a lot of support available to help people recover from mental health problems - in terms of counseling, therapy, medication and treatment in hospital. Different treatments are recommended for different types of mental illnesses. With the right support, the majority of people with mental health problems will surely recover

Depression often affects us during a one point or another in our lives. It can affect our daily tasks, our sleeping habits and other aspects of life. It is one of the key factors that can possibly lead to death due to suicidal tendencies. Also, surrounding problems associated with society are other obvious factors that can contribute to depression. Such a disorder can hugely affect our lives in a way that it changes the way we think, feel, say and interact with other people.

However, you can still prevent yourself from suffering heavily from depression and contribute to a better and happier community by seeking psychiatric help from any licensed professional. Psychotherapy mixed with the correct prescription medications are definitely some of the most widely-known effective treatments for depression. By making use of these proven effective therapies, depressed individuals can save their valuable lives and, therefore, can possibly recover from such a disturbing disorder.

Hello Friends........

Depression can cause increased amounts of cortisol in the blood. Cortisol makes it more difficult for the bones to absorb calcium. As a result, some sufferers of depression have a higher risk of osteoporosis. This risk increases in women who are approaching menopause. Increased cortisol levels can quicken the rate of calcium loss in the bones as a person ages.

Thanks

Hi dick123,

I think depression means lack of interest in doing regular activities or in a state of low mood to do something. Stress, unhappy, sadness or grief these are the symptom we can find when a person is depressed. If these symptom continues for a long period of time then it can cause severe damage to the health. People suffer from diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes due to this unusual state of mind. So its better to relax and cheer and try to keep the mind in peace to avoid depression.
If anybody has any suggestion or idea regarding depression then please share with us.

Thanks
Casey Miller

We affirm that women are four times more prone to depression than men. I am not implying that women are weaker than men. This is because their biology is so different from that of men. They can be so sensitive and more vulnerable to depression, anxiety and stress. Let us highlight some of the differences between men and women and how the two cope with depression and symptoms of depression.

epression is far more serious mental condition than anxiety, especially if we are talking about constant feeling of depression; anxiety is basically similar to stress when it comes to overall health, namely it can even have positive health effect, of course in (very) small doses.

Mental disorders such as depression definitely need lot more researching than it gets at this moment because at this moment people with depression often do not seek help or may even fail to get the help when they do ask for it.
