Hello friends,
My mom was diagnosed with dementia. I asked my dad and uncle, what is the difference between Alzheimer and dementia since they seem to be the same thing to me. Do you have any information about Alzheimer and dementia ?
I love my mom very much so please say a prayer for her.
Thank you!

Hello to all
Dementia:
Dementia is an impairment of thinking and memory that interferes with a person's ability to do things which he or she previously was able to do.
Alzheimer's:
Alzheimer's disease is the common cause of dementia, and is particularly common in older people. Because it is the most common cause of dementia, Alzheimer's disease is commonly equated with the general term dementia. However, there are many other causes of dementia.
Distinguishing Alzheimer's disease from other causes of dementia is not always as easy and straightforward as defining these terms. In practice, people and their disorders of behavior are far more complex than simple definitions sometimes commonly imply.

Alzheimer's disease is actually a type of dementia. It's the most common and the one everyone thinks of. There are however other types of dementia with different causes. For example vascular dementia is caused by strokes.
The different types of dementia can have slightly different characteristics and different progression rates.

Dementia is a symptom. Pain is a symptom, and many different injuries and illnesses can cause pain. When you go to the doctor because you hurt, you won't be satisfied if the doctor diagnoses "pain" and sends you home. You want to know what is causing the pain, and how to treat it.
"Dementia" simply means the symptom of a deterioration of intellectual abilities resulting from an unspecified disease or disorder of the brain.Alzheimer's Disease is one disease/disorder that causes dementia. Many other illnesses or "syndromes" can also cause dementia. Parkinson's Disease can cause dementia. A stroke can cause dementia. Even dehydration can cause dementia. Many of the things that can cause dementia are treatable, even potentially curable.

hello i think,
Dementia is a non-specific syndrome that targets different areas on the brain. For this reason there are many different symptoms associated with dementia. Typical areas of the brain that are affects are: communication, memory, orientation, problem solving and attention. We speak of dementia when someone has significant memory loss plus another impairment that both cause social disfunctioning. Unlike Alzheimer’s, dementia is not a disease on itself. It is a syndrome and it has a variety of causes from which Alzheimer is one of them.
As stated before, there are different types of dementia and Alzheimer disease is one of them. Alzheimer disease is characterized by the appearance of plaques and tangles in the brain. You can find these tangles and plaques in every aging brain but in people with Alzheimer disease there is an abnormal quantity. These plaques and tangles interfere with the functioning of our brain on different areas on the brain. Therefore Alzheimer is also called pathological rapidly aging of the brain.
