How bipolar is different from anxiety/depression?

How is Bipolar Disorder different from social depression and anxiety. How can you tell the difference? What are the different symptoms? How is it diagnosed? Is this disorder treated the same way as depression and anxiety?

Depression is a complex disorder that has many counterparts.The most common anxiety disorders are phobias,generalized anxiety,panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Well I have some personal experience with all of those things. Depression has you feeling hopeless, or sometimes the person experiences thoughts of past situations that were unpleasant to them. Example, your at a social event, you want to engage yourself, so you put yourself out there as much as possible and you sound sort of awkward because your social anxiety kicks in and then thoughts begin to race "Why are they looking at me like that?"
"Are my opinions on this conversation worthy of me saying something? and if I do, what are there reactions going to be?"

With Bipolar, your up and down a lot and sometimes don't notice your outbursts, someone can rub you the wrong way and say something to offend you, and instead of calmly walking away or telling them it was inappropriate, you decide to lash out-then later apologize because you think about how bad you feel for acting so mean, and you question "why?" and usually don't have an answer. These are the common comings of Bipolar disorder. Most struggle to control there mood swings so that leads to depression because the person can't normally fathom why they are this way and why them.

So to answer your questions directly, Bipolar is diagnosed by a psychiatric doctor. In my case, I had a manic episode 3 years back. When it started everyone around me knew I wasn't being myself. I was hyper, more talkative and questioning reality,and making weird out of line statements that seemed only normal in my head. So it was obvious something wasn't right with me. After being in the hospital being studied and watched like a hawk I was diagnosed Bipolar II with manic depression+anxiety. Now, I'm assuming in most cases that Bipolar is also diagnosed when you just simply talk with someone ((therapist, doctor, concerned family member)) and by how you explain your symptoms they can come up with whats wrong, and they blood test you and check your levels. And lastly, depression,anxiety,bipolar are treated differently, with different medications as well.
