My 11 year old has started cutting up everything (paper, bars of soap, hair). She also has scratches that magically apppear on her arms from the cat but it's always one here and one there (not from the cat). She is very emotional and went from an angel before puberty to a she devil now. Is this the first signs of a cutter or am I just making a mountain out of a mole hill.

11 years old seems pretty young, I started at like 16. What grade are 11 year olds anyway?

I would definitely talk to her about it and just educate yourself on the matter. Self injury is awful and will ruin your life if you let it, it will become an addiction. Not to mention all the dangers involved with it and at least for me the embarrassment.Could it be that shes just playing rough, I know I as a kid had mysterious scrapes and bruises all over, I was just careless.

Anyways dont know if this helped or anything but hope you work things out with your daughter.

Self-Mutilation is becoming the way young people handle their frustrations ... Perhaps the most famous cutter was the late Princess Diana.
