It's called Dissociative Identity Disorder. It is caused by very severe abuse (phsycial and sexual) and trauma as a child. They believe this causes them to split their personality up into different alters to try to protect themselves or deal with the situation - i.e. different or dangerous feelings are safely contained in the other alters. The primary alter does not have to deal with it any more. There appears to need to be a genetic predisposition towards it.
personality disorder in my opinion is an outcome of hidden desires or suppressed fellings. sometimes due to these factors,a person's subconcious mind becomes so active that it almost overtake the concious mind and makes the person behave in the way he can not do in concious state.

I think a person from his previous life gets some cirucmstances that led to such disorder....so the person whenever find himself in that particular situation he starts doing the stuff he actually wants to do.....this causes split personality...

About 90 percent of multiple personality disorders are caused by severe abuse, in most cases during the early childhood because thats when we are still developing and most often of a sexual nature.

here are a variety of different things that can cause it. Some of the causes of this problem can include repeated problems with very traumatic situations, no support when dealing with stress, social environment, abuse during childhood, difficulty with brain function, and more. Also, in cases when people deal with a lot of mental stress as well as pressure, they can become more vulnerable to this problem

As far as I know there is no absolute set of causes or events that lead to Dissociative Identity Disorder. Stress and past trauma do seem to be leading known possible causes of the disorder but I dare say they may never definitively know what really causes it.

split personality disorder is usually caused by a childhood trauma. When you're little, your brain can't handle certain traumatic events. (Think sexual abuse, etc.) If they happen on a regular basis, your mind compartmentalizes your feelings about what happened to you. You then bring these parts of your mind into play when you need them to work something out.
I think it's very important to become aware of what causes them to appear (stress, anger, fear) and to be more in control of when that happens. Pretty hard to do by yourself, I would imagine.

f the multiple personality disorder is caused by childhood trauma, it is likely remembered only as a series of perceptual information – fleeting images, olfactory, auditory

Dual personality amine and mange characters come in many different forms, but as with many things, the cause of such forms is what ultimately is the most insightful into seeing why they act the way they do. Motivations, conflicts, and responses to what is sometimes just normal stimuli to other characters are more clearly seen when examining the cause of such things.
One cause of the dual nature of these characters is one that we are more familiar with in the real world.
A dual or multiple personality can come about because of natural happenings or responses to the world around the character. Whether it be through a past event, a dark past with a different mindset, an object that brings back suppressed (and unwanted) desires, or something else, characters who have taken on more than one personality tend to do so because it is a "safe" response to those circumstances.
The psychological trauma of events that may have happened to them or were supposed to shape them into one identity instead elicits a reaction of retaining or creating two or more personalities. In some cases, the character themselves was responsible for creating the trauma, and in order to deal with it, they create and most times suppress another personality within them. The transition between such personalities can either be subtle and slow, or quick.
The other major cause for a duality of personalities in amine characters stems from unnatural, or mythical causes. In most of these cases, the other personality is either forced or placed into their mind by outside circumstances. While it is artificial that for some of these characters that they are given another side of themselves, their other personalities still tend to cause just as much confusion and trauma as those that come into it naturally.
Unlike natural duality, unnatural dual personality characters stand a somewhat better chance of being "cured" simply because of the fact that the cause of such duality is, for the most part, tangible, and removal results in an almost instant remedy. However, their personality shifts tend to come sudden and quick, and the fact that outside devices are the main factor in creating them make these characters more "efficient" in switching between personalities. This can make a remedy more difficult.
Whatever the cause, dual personality characters are a curious study and it is interesting to see how they relate to the story that is being written or told to the viewers or readers. Some may even focus on the duality of the character in question. Let's now pull out some specific examples and do a "case study" of some of the more prominent amine characters who experience this kind of personality.
Natural dual personalities are interesting studies in part because the depth of their duality usually goes back years and is usually fairly complex. Let's take a look at a couple of case studies to better understand the nature of this form of dual personality.

A split personality has nothing to do with schizophrenia, but more with Multiple Personality Syndrome (MPS). This is a psychiatric disorder that causes the sufferer's personality to divide into sub personalities, also known as alters. The alters have their own memory, and don't know of each other's existence. Consequently, the sufferer has episodes of amnesia.
The development of MPS is almost always triggered by severe abuse, including sexual abuse. During the traumatic experience the person becomes dissociated from the experience, becomes 'not there', and an alter personality takes over the pain. For every traumatic experience an alter is created. The alternating of the alters is easily recognized by the changing of the voice of the sufferer.

Thanks for sharing such informative read regards Personality disorder. Personality disorder is a chronic illness in which a person going emotionally sick. A person who is suffering from Personality Disorder plays host to two or more personalities. Each identity has its own unique style of viewing and understanding the world and may have its own name. These distinct personalities periodically control that person's behavior as if several people were alternately sharing the same body.

Split personality can be consciously induced. For example, most people have a work personna and a home personna. Often the two can not both exist optimumly at the same time. If one tries to combine them, they are often not as effective as one each specialized to its specific environment. But in both cases, each will take on a life of its own often with its own lingo, behavior, etc.. The student is often the knurd during the week and drunk during the weekends. The spelling of knurd was changed to nerd to help soften the suggestive affect of this forward-backward polarization..

Misconceptions, This accompanies a sense that away. People with personality disorder may begin dividing what is real and what is not. More man feels detached from their lives and surroundings, the more they can begin to feel that some things are not actually real.
Are they are particular symptoms of spit personality disorder?
Alternate personality that has split off or disassociated from the main personality.

Multiple personality disorder is triggered by childhood trauma, often physical or sexual abuse or both. Often, the memory of the abuse has been suppressed and must be recovered through psychotherapy.

Misconceptions, the feeling that accompanies this gap. People with personality disorders may begin to divide what is real and what is not. More men feel alienated from their lives and surroundings, the more they may begin to believe that some things are not really.

Split personality disorder is the result of hidden desires,if anybody truly want something and he/she was not able to get it then the person's unconscious mind becomes so active to fulfill its desires and this leads development of multiple personality in an human.
