We don't know the exact cause of borderling personality disorder.

But we do know that if you have difficult upbringing together with history of being sexual or physical abuse, it can increase the chance of you having borderline personality disorder.

as with other mental disorders, the causes of BPD are complex and unknown some of suggested ... such as a genetic predisposition, neurobiological factors, environmental factors, or brain abnormalities.

Hello
To be diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, five of the following conditions must be met.

1. A consistent pattern of unstable relationships, alternating between devaluation and over idealization.

2. Extreme shifts in moods, lasting anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

3. Persistent doubts about ones own identity, unable to decide at least two of the following: preferred values, choice of friends, self-image, long term goals, sexual orientation and self image.

4. Chronic feelings of boredom and or emptiness.

5. Suicidal or self-mutilating behaviors.

6. Impulsiveness in no less than two areas of spending, sex, binge eating, shoplifting, careless and reckless driving or substance use.

7. Recurrent physical fighting, anger or frequent displays of temper.

8. Fear of abandonment, either real or imagined.

While those suffering with manic/depressive episodes may find themselves in the same mood for weeks, a person with BPD shifts their moods constantly. Anger, aggression, and impulsive reasoning are triggered quickly and pass quickly, sometimes in as little as a few minutes and rarely more than a day.

Relationships are a major problem for those with BPD as often they can form intense idealization for a person or a group and if there is any form of conflict, quickly change to intense dislike or hatred. Families of people with BPD have an especially hard time as the patient takes what they sense as rejection to an extreme, accusing their loved ones of not caring.

BPD is closely connected with other personality disorders, such as depression, bi-polar disorder and anxiety, and a BPD patient will often exhibit more extreme impulsive behaviors such as risky sex, compulsive lying, over spending and binge eating. Drug use and alcoholism is prevalent in those diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

with the above posts pointing to a combination of factors as causes of BPD, as someone who has a relative with an almost textbook case of BPD.

I can say with confidence that genetic predisposition as a major factor for her.

This disorder of the emotions, "Borderline" is a poor term, has been a prevailing problem for her since very early childhood. She simply cannot withstand any stressor, ie loss of car keys, cell phone problem, school work difficulty, it causes her to enter a psychotic state which at times can lead to self-mutilation, ie, slamming her head into the wall. and very little can be done to calm her done in this state except the passing of time.

It causes great suffering both to her and those around her

In a more neutral emotional state she is very intelligent and someone who you can carry on a normal conversation with, but she is easily turned by the slightest stressor or perceived dissidence to her position, so she has a hot/cold, love/hate way with people around her, one second she is your friend, the next she wishes your death.

It is a disorder that is very difficult, lifelong, and really, only through getting older and becoming emotionally burnt out do they begin to calm down so to speak.

I say that I believe genetic predisposition to be the major culprit as her mother shares some of the same traits, although much milder, as well as one of her aunts. However, she was raised in a loving, nurturing home so she is very high functioning and attends college as we speak.

This is just one case, perhaps others know of someone in their life who suffers from this terrible disorder

At right, the only good thing about limits, they act very similarly to limit other cases, girls, it is easy to see if you know what to look for. This girl has probably tried to commit suicide, but simply to draw attention. The girl I knew has defended her mother all day. Again, back to hunting.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a personality disorder in which the person has a style and has been disturbed usually affects people over 18 years. To avoid this situation, they could take impulsive actions such as suicide operations. Change their mental attitude towards the well supporters and fans of apology for them to devalue them. Plans and public values, career, various members, sexual identity is not stable and changes in circumstances.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is one of the most controversial diagnoses in psychology today. Since it was first introduced in the DSM, psychologists and psychiatrists have been trying to give the somewhat amorphous concepts behind BPD a concrete form. Kernberg's explication of what he calls Borderline Personality Organization is the most general, while Gunderson, though a psychoanalyst, is considered by many to have taken the most scientific approach to defining BPD.
