Passive smoking is widespread, and environmental tobacco smoke contains many potent respiratory irritants.
Passive smoking is also associated with respiratory symptoms and asthma.

Yeah, passive smoking is worse thing than simple smoking. It doesn't make you addicted to smoking, but it hurt your organism even more than simple smoking.
The information that you have heard is abrupt. There is no possiblity of gettin harm when you stand near to those one's who smoke. My uncle is not a smoker but he is with my Friend's father for the past 30 years because they are doing the same business. But he has not been affected so far.In addition to that the sensex taken in india says that the people are not affected due to passive smokin.

Passive smoking, second hand smoking or environmental tobacco smoking are terms that are used to describe the smoke that is exhaled by smokers or that burns from the end of a cigarette, pipe or cigar. Passive smoke is then involuntarily inhaled by non smokers. Passive smoke stays in the air for several hours after the smoker stops smoking.

Hello
If you aren’t familiar with the term passive smoking, let’s first go over a brief definition. Passive smoking is also referred to as second hand smoking. All this means is that you are exposed, in most cases involuntarily, to the smoking of others.
Up until the early 1990’s, the effects of passive smoking were pretty much unknown. But many studies conducted since then have proven that exposure to second hand smoke, whether it’s in the workplace or the home, can also have some serious health consequences.
A study done by the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that on average, over 3000 people die on a yearly basis due to the effects of second hand smoke. Now granted, this is just an estimation but it has triggered legislation in virtually every state to reduce the amount of second hand smoke that we are now exposed to.
Lets’ take a look at a few other startling statistics about passive smoking. Did you know that children are exposed to more second hand smoke than adults? And did you also know that the harmful effects of second hand smoke can last their entire lives?

http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/Smoking/smoking-cigar-037.gif Passive smoking is also known as secondhand or involuntary smoking. It is basically the breathing in and exposure to other people's cigarette smoke, which is also known as secondhand smoke or Environmental tobacco smoke.
But according to some recent studies it was noticed that pasive smoking is not very much injurious to health.

Hello
You don't have to be a smoker for smoking to harm you. You can also have health problems from breathing in other people's smoke. The health effects of passive smoking are as serious and debilitating as smoking itself. High in toxic chemicals, secondhand smoke (combination of smoke that comes from the burning end of a cigarette, cigar or pipe and the smoke exhaled by the smoker) plays a role in causing or contributing to a number of health problems, from cardiovascular disease to cancer. There is no safe amount of secondhand smoke (SHS). Children, pregnant women, older people and people with heart or breathing problems should be especially careful.
What is Second hand Smoke?
When a cigarette is smoked, about half of the smoke is inhaled/exhaled (mainstream smoke) by the smoker and the other half comes directly from the burning tobacco product (sidestream smoke). The combination of mainstream and sidestream smoke makes up environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), also known as Secondhand smoke or tobacco smoke pollution. ETS has been shown to produce more particulate-matter (PM) pollution than an idling low-emission diesel engine.
Also known as Passive smoking, Second hand Smoke plays a part in more health problems than you might realize. Secondhand smoke is a toxic cocktail consisting of poisons and carcinogens. There are over 4000 chemical compounds in secondhand smoke; 200 of which are known to be poisonous, and 69 have been identified as carcinogens.
The dangerous particles in secondhand smoke can linger in the air for hours. Breathing them even for a short time, for as little as 20 or 30 minutes, can harm you in a variety of ways.

A 20-A-DAY smoker has been told she has given her five-year-old son the lungs of an old man.
Kelly Rickman, 23, has now been ordered by doctors not to light up around little Sol.
His passive smoking has led to severe breathing difficulties, they have warned the shocked mum of four.
Kelly still has not given up her habit but now only puffs in the garden.
All her family — including two sisters, brother and mum and dad — are heavy smokers.
But the effect on young Sol only came to light when he needed surgery for a throat condition.
Kelly from Somerset, said: “The doctors saw his lungs and said they looked like the lungs of a pensioner who had been smoking all his life.
“I never realised passive smoking could do so much damage. When you see that the smoke is hurting your child in this way, there is no excuse.”
Ian Willmore, of Action on Smoking and Health, said: “There is extensive evidence of the dangers of passive smoking.
“Kids’ lungs are still developing and are more vulnerable to fumes.”

Passive smoking is the inhalation of smoke, called secondhand smoke (SHS) or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), from tobacco products used by others. It occurs when tobacco smoke permeates any environment, causing its inhalation by people within that environment. Scientific evidence shows that exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke causes disease, disability, and death.
Passive smoking has played a central role in the debate over the harms and regulation of tobacco products. Since the early 1970s, the tobacco industry has been concerned about passive smoking as a serious threat to its business interests; harm to "innocent bystanders" was perceived as a motivator for stricter regulation of tobacco products. Despite an early awareness of the likely harms of secondhand smoke, the tobacco industry coordinated to engineer a scientific controversy with the aim of forestalling regulation of their products. Currently, the health risks of secondhand smoke are a matter of scientific consensus, and these risks have been one of the major motivations for smoking bans in workplaces and indoor public places, including restaurants, bars and night clubs.

Passive smoking leads around you to breathe toxic gases, which could affect more natural cigarette smoking, you get filtered smoke, but the smoke you are getting the secondary movements and mainstream of smoke. This means that you breathe in what the smoker is exhaling as the burning and smoking.

Passive smoking is smoking second hand. Smoke inhalation second hand is almost as bad as smoking itself. If you are in a smoky room for 1 hour with smokers, is equal to smoking 10 cigarettes. There are many types of cancers that can arise from second hand smoke.

Passive smoking is more dangerous than active smoking. People who smoke occasionally or live with an active smoker have a high chance of developing smoking related health problems such as lung cancer, smoker cough etc.

Passive smoking refers to the smoke that non-smokers are breathing in from active smokers. Passive smoking means that the passive smokers, or non-smokers, are breathing in the smoke either from the burning end of the active smoker's cigarette or the smoke expelled by the active smoker. Passive smoking is also called involuntary or secondhand smoking.

Hi,
Passive smoking is major problem of the general public nowadays
Harmful effects of smoking:
1. Tobacco smoke also contributes to a number of cancers.
2. The mixture of nicotine and carbon monoxide in each cigarette you smoke temporarily increases your heart rate and blood pressure
3. This can also cause heart attacks and stroke
4. Tar coats your lungs like soot in a chimney and causes cancer.
5. Heart disease and strokes are also more common among smokers than non-smokers.
6. In younger people, three out of four deaths from heart disease are due to smoking.
7. Cigarette smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of low birth weight, prematurity, spontaneous abortion, and perinatal mortality in humans, which has been referred to as the fetal tobacco syndrome.
8. Many substance founds in cigarettes may harm the ovaries.
So quit smoking. (http://www.raymeds.com/purchase/generic-zyban.aspx)

Passive smoking has been associated with several risk factors during pregnancy. Therefore this study highlights the need for partners of expecting women to give up smoking that would ensure the birth of a healthy child. Fathers should be vigilant that they do not smoke around their partners.

Smoking is very harmful not only to the person who is smoking but everyone around him as well . You can protect yourself and your loved ones by following the below mentioned tips:
