I have a diagnosis of PTSD following a gang r..e. I also have been diagnosed with severe depression, OCD, dissociative disorder.
I was seen by a psychologist who said I could not be treated because I had not gone to my own male GP following the incident but saw a female doctor instead and I did not report the incident to the police. She said this meant that I was stuck and would not respond to treatment.
On the advice of the rape crisis help line, I went to the healthcare commission. They got a nurse to review this and she said that they were valid reasons for not treating me.
I just cannot understand what I did wrong. Do you know why this makes me stuck. The rape crisis help line disagree very strongly.
Thanks

I am sorry to hear that they refuse to treat you. I wonder who make a diagnosis of PTSD for you?

I think it is not fair for you not to have treatment because of what you did. See your GP and ask to refer you to the local CMHT (community mental health team) psychiatrist who will assess you and will treat you with medication as well as will consider to refer you to the CMHT psychologist for PTSD treatment.

You may be treated with Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) or CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is quite effective for PTSD.
