Need Help

I am new to this forum and ask for assistance in locating the proper place for this question.

I am trying to determine what is happening with my brother and where I can turn to best help. He is 33 years old and has been in a downward spiral for at least two years. He has experience an heavy load of stress and is not taking or been prescribed any medications. I have observed the following symptoms:


Dry mouth
Sleeping on brick fireplace and made a ceramic tile seat for car
Withdraw from social activities and family
Says not in control of his life
Thinks there is a conspiracy that “others” are purposely interfering in his life
Must do “the right thing” at all times
Inability to explain details regarding complicated outside forces controlling his life. “Too complicated.”
Refusal to go to medical professional


Other Considerations:


He works in research with marine parasites.
There is potential for STD


Any direction or constructive recommendations are appreciated.

He might be having acute psychotic episode as he believe there is a conspiracy against him and that complicated outside forces are controlling his life.

I would suggest him to see a psychiatrist to be assessed properly.

If he is using illicit drugs for long time, he might have experienced such symptoms. Sometimes stress also can induce brief psychotic episodes.

I am certain he does not have an illicit drug history, but there is an abundance of stress. There is no doubt a mental health issue exists. My concern is a medical issue and could be aggravating/causing the issue. There are only three family members that he still trusts and he absolutely refuses to seek medical or psychiatric help. I continue to keep the lines of communication as open as possible. This is becoming extremely difficult. Where to go from here; I am at a loss?
