I have exhausted so many avenues for my teenage son who is currently in a mental health residential program with many issues boardering criminal.. He has a gang obsession where he has researched, contacted and believes to be in a "crip gang".. He got in trouble at school and has a gang unit officer watching him through the school for gang issues for "supposed activity" although not confirmed. He read up on information on marijuana and went as far as to buy seeds, research on school internet, shoplift items from shops in relation to this and also gang activity.. without being caught as we found the weapons & knives etc.. He has anger issues where he has threated harm to me and also husband although I figure mostly in anger after confrontation of items he has taken.
He has ADHD and border aspergers.. I think also depression as his blood father has an illness and is on dialysis and everything that has happened in this past year happened when he came back from his overseas visit from seeing his father His father's prognosis is touch and go at any time and is on list to get kidney replacement. I feel he is harboring depression and perhaps acting out..
Within this program and speaking to his other at home psychologist he seems to be missing something where he does things constantly that are bordering criminal to which he can get into very serious trouble but having said that he gets explained right from wrong and he is missing the mark on this.. He has had this explained to him by us and mental health professionals but isn't getting it like something is missing.. we also believe he is OCD and could be bi-polar (my thoughts)..
He wants a military future and then he loves the gang thril.. he enjoys the thrill it seems of either of these ways of life.. he also isn't comprehending the seriousness of his actions and continues to make the same mistake whether he was at home or in the residential unit.. This is frustrating to me as a parent that wants her son back to his old self so that he can return home and be with his family again.
He thinks very literal also with no shades of gray and seems to enjoy the thrill of things no matter what it is.. He has never hurt anyone and doesn't have a mean bone in his body, however his actions say different..
The problem is that no one can figure out what is going on inside of him.. I have requested a personality test to be done and feel perhaps there may be some kind of neurological issue going on that is preventing him on understanding and making the right choices in what he does.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
