My father has been stubborn, delusional, irritable, depressed, and obsessive for nearly 30 years. He is now 75. In the past he has taken prozac - but that had the very undesirable effect of turning him into a kind of zombie. Currently he is on paxil, but that is not helping his primary disorders.
I posted a lot of specific examples of his mental state on a site like this, but they told me to stop posting because it was upsetting other people in the forum. They were accusing me of just ranting - which I have no interest in doing.

What I would like is some pointers in what other medications to ask his doctor about. He doesn't tell his doctor the truth so I am going to have to go behind his back. The most disturbing symptom he has in my opinion is that he wails in a weak voice things like "oh jesus", "oh lord", "I'm sorry", "help me lord", "help me jesus", "I don't know nothing", "please help me", etc. several hundred times per day. The things that set him off are often things that are ridiculously trivial - such as crumbs on kitchen counter, fingerprints on metal surfaces, streaks on floor. I mention this because the trivial things seem to bother him just as much as the non-trivial things that go on such as deaths, job loss, nonstop barking of dogs, etc. I should also mention that he is a bit of a hypochondriac. If he hears of a disease, he decides he has it also. He has normal blood sugar yet insists he has diabetes. He has normal blood pressure yet insists he has high blood pressure.
If I try and have any conversation with him about the problems he keeps begging for help with, he tells me to stop and that I am going to make his head explode. That pretty much prevents me from helping him mentally, so I'm afraid medication is the only alternative.
One other thing I should mention is that he behaves more troubled and irrational and unstable when he is around me. He does that to get sympathy and to shield himself from reality. But even when not putting on a show - he is still irrational.

So.. what drugs can you suggest looking into further?
