I met a woman on a cancer forum who prooceded to pretend to die (of a very rare cancer) and then took on the personality of her daughter who also died within 2 months (of a very rare autoimmune condition). She also took on at least 4 other charcters on this forum with related MO. She divulged much personal information (address, e-mails, phone numbers) and contacted those on the forum directly. Eventually she was discovered, because her story became so bizarre as she tried to keep contact with 2 members (and actually persued one sexually while impersonating a man).
When she was discovered, we found she had also done a similar thing on an autoimmune forum, all taking place over the course of a year or so, with yet again another very similar MO.
After she was discovered, I unfortunately decided to forgive this person when they called me and cried that they were tremendously lonely, beyond belief and had just been looking for someone to care about them, even if it was all made up.
This person immediately disclosed she had been a victim of incest as a child, tried to commit suicide 3 times as a child/adolescent and had also been in an abusive marriage. She then went on to say she had a brain tumor and was unable to work and also was a single parent of a child with rare autoimmune diseases. So once again an unbelievable story. After a few months she then went on to say her daughter was diagnosed with the rarest form of leukemia and is terminal. This time instead of telling this to only strangers on an internet forum, she had joined FaceBook and is telling her real family and friends. Well,I have once again discovered that her daughters diagnosis is at a minimal a gross exaggeration, if not completely facticious!!
At this point I am concerned for her daughters health and whether or not she is either fooling doctors or maybe even inducing the condition. At a minimum she has made her teenage daughter completely dependent on her for emotional and medical support and has her daughter and possibly other family and friends believeing her condition is immently fatal.
So...what should or can be done, if anything.
Any input is greatly appreciated, because I think this woman is sick and is endangering her child.
