I am worried about my wife. She has this in her family, on her dad's side. Her uncle and aunt both had severe cases of it.

Can there be 'episodes' of this and then mostly normal? Also, can it get worse as you get into your later years?

She gets VERY 'bent out of shape' on a regular basis. However, its not all the time. It comes in what I call 'waves'. A couple of days of it, then ok for a few days, or even a week. Then it repeats.

When she gets like this she is:
- VERY Angry- over small insignificant things to the point of screaming
- Intense Sadness, everything is all bad, my life is over.
- Patronizing- I'm treated like a truant child who needs to be 'corrected'
- Severe Panic attacks- so bad she thinks she is having a heart attack
- Violence- punches me, shoves me, breaks things, death threats

The anger, sadness and anxiety can rotate very quickly.

She will do this for a few days, sometimes three or four, then be ok for a while. The frequency has been slowly increasing the past 2-3 years now.

She also plays down anything after she is ok and keeps telling me it was all my fault, that I'm 'mean' to her and that her behavior was justified.

I should mention that we are both in our 50's and have been married for over 25 years now.

Are we just 'fighting' or is there something going on here? Its wearing me out trying to cope with it.
